Sea-serpents

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

(Redirected from Sea serpent)

Sea-serpents are large, serpentine marine animals unrecognized by science. While the general public typically considers them fantasies, some reports have been taken quite seriously by cryptozoology.

In the 19th and early 20th centuries, the topic became more mainstream, resulting in an article being published in the Encyclopedia Brittanica.

Sci Fi works have occassionally featured sea-serpents, sometimes as threatening monsters, sometimes for fun (like Cecil the Sea-sick Sea-serpent of Beany and Cecil fame).

Related Terms and Articles

  • Sea monsters are more generally large marine cryptids. A sea serpent would be a type of sea monster, although the terms are used imprecisely
  • Lake monsters may be similar to sea-serpents, but are found in lakes
