Scott Bakula

Scott Stewart Bakula (October 9, 1954) is an American actor born in St. Louis, Missouri. He is best known for his roles as Dr. Sam Beckett on the series Quantum Leap and Jonathan Archer on Star Trek: Enterprise.

Career

Bakula grew up as a member of a musical family. He started a rock band as a child and later sang with the St. Louis Symphony. Bakula graduated from Kirkwood High School in Kirkwood Missouri and went on to attend the University of Kansas where he studied Law before leaving to pursue an acting career. He began performing on stage, winning lead roles in the musical Godspell, and stage roles on Broadway in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Fiddler on the Roof. He was nominated for a 1988 Tony award for his role in the musical Romance-Romance. Other theater credits include three Guys Naked From the Waist Down, and Nite Club Confidential.

Bakula began appearing on television in the mid-80s in I-Man, a recurring role on Designing Women and the hit legal series Matlock. In 1988 he won a starring role in the short-lived series Eisenhower and Lutz. The series failed but Bakula's career surged ahead. He was then cast in the 1989 time travel series Quantum Leap as Dr. Sam Beckett. The series came to an end in 1993 and continues to be popular in syndication.

Following Quantum Leap, Bakula focused on film and made for TV movies. He appeared in Color of Night, A Passion to Kill, Lord of Illusions and became a recurring character on the hit sitcom Murphy Brown as Peter Hunt. In 1996 he played Mr. Smith in the short-lived series Mr. & Mrs. Smith. He followed up with appearances in Netforce, the Academy award-wining drama American Beauty, 'Above Suspicion, and Papa's Angels.

In 2001, Bakula took on the role of Jonathan Archer, captain of the Enterprise in a new Star Trek prequel series Star Trek: Enterprise. The series lasted four seasons before being canceled. Following Trek, he has appeared on The New Adventures of Old Christine and lent his voice to the video game Star Trek: Legacy.

In 2007 he was in the Lifetime Channel production of Blue Smoke, based on the Nora Roberts novel by the same name.

Reciently Bakula has appeared in several stage productions, including Shenandoah, Quality of Life, No Strings & in January 2007 An Evening with Scott Bakula (a cabaret performance)

In February 2008 he appeared in the Boston Legal episode Glow in the Dark.

In 2009 Scott will co-star with Matt Damon in The Informant, which is based on a true story.

Personal Life

Bakula married Krista Neumann in 1981 and they had two children. They divorced in 1995 and in 1996, he remarried to actress Chelsea Field with whom he also has two children.
