Scientifiction is a combination of the words "scientific fiction" used by magazine publisher Hugo Gernsback to describe what today is called "science fiction." It was generally abbreviated as "STF," pronounced "Stef," and was not in favor for very long. Gernsback planned to launch a magazine dedicated to STF and call it The Magazine of Scientifiction but later decided to name the magazine Amazing Stories instead.
