Sam Raimi (Samuel M. Raimi) (b. October 23, 1959) American director, writer, and actor who made his name with a trilogy of independent post-modern horror films: The Evil Dead (1982), Evil Dead II (1987) and Army of Darkness (1992). After becoming a successful TV producer with such series as American Gothic (1995–1996), Hercules The Legendary Journeys (1995–1999) and Xena Warrior Princess (1995–2000), he finally achieved Hollywood acceptance with the psychic psycho-thriller The Gift (2000) and the box-office blockbusters Spider-Man (2002) and Spider-Man 2 (2004). He had an early acting role in the low-budget movie "Galaxis" before moving behind the camera for his Evil Dead trilogy.
