Salem's Lot)
'Salem's Lot is a novel by Stephen King, first published in 1975, which follows writer Ben Mears as he returns to his home town of Jerusalem's Lot and finds that the Marsten House, where he had a traumatic experience as a child, is now home to a vampire that slowly but surely lays waste to the entire town. Mixing soap-opera, "Peyton Place"-style characters and chilling horror moments, the book was turned into an effective miniseries by Tobe Hooper in 1979.
King's original title was Second Coming but changed it to Jerusalem's Lot. The publishers, Doubleday, felt this sounded too religious and so shortened it to 'Salem's Lot.
Prior to the book, King had written a short story Jerusalem’s Lot, set in the 19th century. The novel grew out of this, but the short story provides some interesting background. King also wrote a related story (actually a follow-up) called One for the Road, which appears in the collection Night Shift, along with Jerusalem's Lot.

It's usually best to give a very general overview to a story first, then plot details. When including the plot or essential details in your article (which could ruin the pleasure of discovery for some readers), it is important to include the spoiler tag before any give-away material.
