Yuletide Greetings
What are some of the things that you count on every holiday season? Some of the traditions that you enjoy?
We visit with family and friends, and we feast—eggnog, shortbread, fruitcake with marzipan.
We sing carols, we decorate with ornaments and lights, we search for just the right presents for all the special people in our lives, and we go to sleep on Christmas Eve with visions of sugar plums dancing in our heads.
And . . . we get to watch holiday specials!
I always watch the classic animated special How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966). I sing along with Thurl Ravenscroft ("You're a three-decker sauerkraut and toadstool sandwich—with arsenic sauce!") with a smile on my face until the snowflakes swirl down on Whoville's celebration.
Other seasonal favorites include It's a Wonderful Life, the many variations on A Christmas Carol, and the delightful stop-motion Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer from Rankin/Bass.
The SCI FI Channel makes Christmas Day interstellar with nonstop Stargate SG-1, and brings in the New Year with a traditionally twisted Twilight Zone marathon.
