Kirstie Alley is born (1951). Before she became a star of television sitcoms and comedic films, Kirstie played Lieutenant Saavik in the big-screen hit Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982). She also starred opposite Tom Selleck in his robotic thriller Runaway (1984), and later portrayed a sinister doctor investigating a rash of alien births in John Carpenter's remake of Village of the Damned (1995).
