Later in his career, he reached the top of the box-office charts when he played Damien Thorne's unfortunate adoptive father in Damien: Omen 2 (1976) and joined the all-star cast of the sci-fi disaster epic When Time Ran Out (1980). William, who died in 1981, was born in O'Fallon, Illinois.
