How do I make a link to another SCIFIPEDIA article?

If the article already contains the name of the other article, Edit the article by enclosing the other article name in double square brackets. Thus, "Alternate Article Name" would become "Alternate Article Name".

How do I make a link to another SCIFIPEDIA article with text different than the article's title?

Inside the wiki link tag, place a pipe ( | ) after the link title, and the text you want the link to read as after the pipe. For example, Asimov will appear as Asimov and link to Isaac Asimov.

How do I add a page to a Category?

At the end of an article, enclose "Category" followed immediately by a colon (:) followed immediately by the Category name in double square brackets. If the category is "Movies", you would write .

How do I make a link to a Category page?

If you want to make a link to a Category page and not actually add the article to the Category in question, place a colon before the word "Category" and after it, and after that the name of the Category. For instance, :Category:Literature will yield Category:Literature.

How do I make a link to a Category page that shows different text for the link?

Inside the Wiki link, place a pipe ( | ) after the resource and follow it with the text you want. For instance, Works in SCIFI will yield Works in SCIFI.

How can I ensure proper names and titles are alphabetized correctly?

When adding a category to an article whose title is a person's proper name (e.g., Isaac Asimov or that may have a definite article as it's beginning (e.g., The Invisibles), you will want the article to appear in the proper place in any category summaries. The above two examples would find "Isaac Asimov" under "I" and "The Invisibles" under "T". You can resolve this by altering slightly the category tag you place in the article. Placing a pipe ( | ) after the category name, followed by how you wish the category to list the title of your article will force that particular category page to alphabetize it correctly in the list.

Here's what the category tags would look like for our two examples:

You should do this for every category tag you add to your article. Words that you should include in your article's title but place after the rest of the text when placing a category tag are a, an and the.

How do I suppress Wiki formatting in a sample link?

Sometimes, especially when wishing to expand SCIFIPEDIA's Tutorials or other help articles, one wishes to demonstrate the code in it's entirety. Enclosing a regular Wiki expression within the special tag will make any Wiki code appear as text to the software behind SCIFIPEDIA.

How do I make a link to an external web page?

An external link simply uses the external web page's URL instead of a SCIFIPEDIA title within an article's link. E.g., SCIFI.com would link to an article within the Wiki, whereas 1 links directly to SCIFI.com's main page. The Wiki automatically decorates such links to indicate they lie outside of SCIFIPEDIA. You may also change the text of the display.

External Links

Links to articles outside of SCIFIPEDIA appear as internal footnotes and can appear in a list at the bottom of the article. They should not appear as their native URLs, but should be formatted to describe the website and the topic. Thus: [www.websiteaddress Subject], that is opening and closing square bracket, with the URL followed by a space, followed by the subject under discussion that will be covered in the externally linked website.

For External Links relating to media properties, we've developed a ranking order for how multiple entries should be listed and it is as follows:

 1. Official sites for titled project
 2. Official sites for creative participants (actors, producers, writers) in the titled project
 3. Reference sites (IMDB, etc.). Please note here that we don't choose to include links to other online encyclopedias, like Wikipedia. Since we're covering a subset of the material they cover, we could be seen, in a sense, as being in competition with them and we don't wish to send contributors and visitors away from SCIFIPEDIA. Their reputation and location are well-known and their material can easily be found. It is our view that external links to Wikipedia don't serve the same purpose as links to dedicated-subject wikis which would more appropriately be referenced here when they exist.
 4. Fan sites for the project.
 5. Fan sites for the participants.
 6. Fan fiction sites.

Please note that we do not allow site banners or images to accompany links listings. If you wish to post site banners, you should contact our advertising department but we do not include advertising within the body of the Article content area.

How do I make a link to an external web page with different text for the link?

Inside the wiki link tag to the external page, add a space and your text after the URL. Don't use a pipe ( | ). For example, SCIFI.com shows [SCIFI.com]
