I can't save my article—what's wrong?

You should check the following: 1. You are logged in to SCIFIPEDIA (you need to be a registered member to do so). 2. You have cookies enabled in your browser. 3. Your entry does not contain words deemed unacceptable for SCIFIPEDIA's community standards. 4. Your entry does not contain problematic HTML coding. 5. Your entry does not contain JavaScript or Active-X code. If all of the above are true, please contact SCIFIPEDIA and alert us to your problem.

I can't upload an image. Why?

There are issues both mechanical and legal which are being worked out to allow the posting of images and other media. The chief concern is that copyrighted material will be posted illegally and without proper permission from the copyright holders. It is the intention of SCIFIPEDIA to work toward a resolution of these issues that will allow the posting of images. When the resolution has been developed to our satisfaction, we will allow the posting of images, subject to review and approval by the administrators of SCIFIPEDIA.

I can't edit an article. Why?

You should check the following: 1. You are logged in to SCIFIPEDIA (you need to be a registered member to do so). 2. You have cookies enabled in your browser. 3. Your entry does not contain words deemed unacceptable for the SCIFIPEDIA's community standards. 4. Your entry does not contain problematic HTML coding. 5. Your entry does not contain JavaScript or Active-X code. 6. The article is not a protected article such as Creator Page or a SCIFIPEDIA administrative page. If all of the above are true, please contact SCIFIPEDIA and alert us to your problem.

I can't delete a page. Why?

Page deletion is reserved to the SCIFIPEDIA administrators. If you feel a page is a candidate for deletion, check via the Discussion page for the article in question first to make sure this hasn't already been addressed in the article's history and that a consensus has been reached. You can instead re-make the article as a Redirect, if appropriate, either as it stands or as a Disambiguation page. Again, check the Discussion page before embarking on radical changes to existing work. If consensus supports deletion, please contact the Editor at SCIFIPEDIA and formally request the article be deleted.

Spell Check doesn't work at all in Safari. What do I do?

You can log into SCIFIPEDIA via another browser or you can compose your article in another program which does offer spell check and the cut and paste the article into SCIFIPEDIA once you're happy with the final result of your editing work. We are hoping to add Spell Check support for Safari in the near future.

Article vs. Primary Article. vs. Portal vs. Project Page: What are they and when are they appropriate?

SCIFIPEDIA defines these terms as follows:

Article: an entry in SCIFIPEDIA. Appending a namespace in front of a title designates that an article is not an entry in SCIFIPEDIA so much as it's about SCIFIPEDIA. For instance, Help:Editing and SCIFIPEDIA:What_is_SCIFIPedia are articles but in namespaces different from the primary content concerned with science fiction and fantasy.

Primary Article: in SCIFIPEDIA an article that addresses a subject that is very complex and multi-faceted, such as Star Wars. A primary article has no special Wiki code or namespace to set it apart, but it should be approached in a slightly different manner. It should address the subject in a neutral point of view and touch on all of the aspects in a brief but informative manner. The article should also contain a link to a Portal dedicated to the subject (see below) if one exists. Portal: in SCIFIPEDIA it is essentially a combination of master guide or compendium organizing related articles, community meeting place and Project page guide, all for a particular subject that is highly complex and very likely the subject of lively debate. Examples would be specific genre subjects such as Star Trek or Doctor Who. A Portal is a namespace in SCIFIPEDIA. For instance, Portal:Battlestar Galactica.

Project Page: an organizational tool within SCIFIPEDIA for organizing projects relating to specific subjects that are themselves highly complex and multi-faceted. It can also be an organizational tool for straightforward projects such as wiki-wide clean-up project or an attempt to assemble a timeline. It is a place where the details of an ongoing project can be posted, discussed and undertaken in a clear, consensual manner. Ideally it would have an extensive Discussion resource and give a history of the project and the principal participants' SCIFIPEDIA contacts (if they use them).

A Project Page is a namespace in SCIFIPEDIA. You would append the "SCIFIPEDIA" in front of the projects name (with a colon). E.g., SCIFIPEDIA:Authors would be a project whose objective might be organizing and improving, keeping alphabetized and keeping unambiguous the article Authors.
