Be the first on your block to do something wiki and wonderful. You know something about a topic that fits into our subject areas (they're pretty broad, despite what might at first seem like a pretty specialized focus) that other people might also know but that they haven't chosen to contribute yet. You have a favorite Novel or Movie or TV show, don't you? Maybe even a second-favorite if somebody has already written about your favorite? Jump in! It's pretty easy, despite all the strange wiki formatting rules, and you'll feel like you've done something really cool once you've tried it. Plus, your name (or nickname, at least) will be on record as the one who started the Article on your topic.
Formatting
Signature (Link to Userpage). I've already suggested a couple of times that you should write something in the Discussion page for an Article. That's a good idea, since much of the development of more complicated pieces will be worked out there. It's where the give and take of ideas should happen so that what shows up in the Article itself represents the consensus of all interested contributors.
In order to help people keep track of who is saying what, you should always sign your comments on the Discussion pages and it's really simple and easy to do. Your signature is:
--~~~
and, if you want to add a time-stamp, just add a fourth tilde, that's this (~) to end up with this:
--~~~~
With that simple set of characters, you'll let everyone track you to your own userpage where they can leave comments privately if they feel the need.
Today's shout-out
Marlon J. I still don't know everything that he's responsible for but I do know that my office phone and computer work better after he talks nicely to them. Techno-magician strikes again.
Thought for the day
If there's a wiki way and another way, which is better? It all depends on where you're working, doesn't it? Do what wiki wants and all will be well.
