General Business

New contributions wanted. Fanatic, energetic, dogged, detail-oriented, wiki-familiar (or quick-to-learn) writers with knowledge, an objective turn of mind and strong opinions, please show up and start working. We want you by the thousands and we know that the genre has a reputation for producing exactly that set of characteristics. Start anywhere!

Formatting

It can be the hardest part or the easiest part, depending on how much you know and how you want to say it – writing the actual article. You've got your header. You've got your Category. You know what you need to do about text formatting (at least a little).

So, start writing. Get the title of the article into the early part of the first sentence. I don't actually know why that's a technical necessity but it just makes sense generally so don't forget to do it. Include an appropriate date or two. Mention some related titles and don't forget to link them. Cite some authorities. Include as many outside links as seem useful but do it at the end of the article. Make comparisons and link those, too. Try to remember everything your teachers taught you about the essay form. Keep a Neutral Point of View. Keep your style as clean and simple as you can. Finish it off. Preview it. Post it. Check the Special Pages and see your member name next to your article. Try to stay moderately humble…and start another one.

Today's shout-out

Eyal K. One of the managers of the tech team and an excellent man with an answer or a solution or an idea. Never caught short with where to go and who to talk to in order to get it done – whatever it is.

Thought for the day

If you don't learn something new every day, there's probably something that you don't yet know how to do correctly.
