20070427:
SF Hall of Fame Gala
The Science Fiction Museum will induct its newest Hall of Fame honorees in a ceremony June 16. Neal Stephenson will host the evening's events.
The 2007 inductees for the Science Fiction Hall of Fame include artist Ed Emshwiller, Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, Blade Runner director Ridley Scott, and author Gene Wolfe.
The same day, the museum also opens its "Out of This World: Extraordinary Costumes from Film and Television" exhibition, which runs through September 30 and features more than 30 costumes and related objects from SF films and television programs, including Star Wars, Blade Runner, The Terminator, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, and Batman.
On display will be Darth Vader's helmet and cape, the spacesuit worn by DeForest Kelley (Dr. McCoy) in "The Tholian Web" episode of Star Trek, and the Wicked Witch's hat from the classic 1939 The Wizard of Oz.
For those who love books and short fiction as much they love movies and TV, the ceremony will include the Locus Awards. The winners are selected via Locus magazine's annual readers' poll. This year, some of the finalists include Vernor Vinge, Tim Powers, Naomi Novik, Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, and Nancy Kress.
- Hope to see you at one of the year's highlights,
