Sunand Tryambak Joshi (b. June 22, 1958 in Pune, india) is a widely published critic and editor. He is the author of such critical studies as H. P. Lovecraft: The Decline of the West, The Weird Tale, The Modern Weird Tale and The Evolution of the Weird Tale. He has edited the standard corrected editions of H. P. Lovecraft’s fiction from Arkham House, and annotated editions of the author’s work for Penguin and Dell, as well as The Ancient Track: Complete Poetical Works and Collected Essays.

His revisionist 1996 biography, H. P. Lovecraft: A Life from Necronomicon Press won both the British Fantasy Award and the Bram Stoker Award.

The founder and editor of the magazines Lovecraft Studies and Studies in Weird Fiction, Joshi has edited the critical anthologies H. P. Lovecraft: Four Decades of Criticism and An Epicure in the Terrible, compiled the standard bibliography of Lovecraft for Kent State University Press, and assembled An H. P. Lovecraft Encyclopedia (with David E. Schultz). He has also translated Maurice Lévy’s Lovecraft: A Study in the Fantastic.

Along with writing the critical studies Lord Dunsany: Master of the Anglo-Irish Imagination and Ramsey Campbell and Modern Horror Fiction, he has prepared editions of the work of Arthur Machen, Algernon Blackwood, Lord Dunsany, Arthur Quiller-Couch, Donald Wandrei, and Ambrose Bierce, among others.

He is co-editor (with Stefan Dziemianowicz) of World Supernatural Literature: An Encyclopedia from Greenwood Press, while a two-volume edition of the complete ghost stories of M. R. James is forthcoming from Penguin.
