Russia

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

Russia or the Russian Federation is a large country that covers much of Eurasia. It is the largest country in the world in terms of land mass. Previously the dominant country in the United Soviets Socialist Republic, Russia is now an independent, democratic nation.

Russia was the first country to put a man in space, Yuri Gagarin in 1961.

Notable Russians include actors Maria Ouspenskaya and Martin Kosleck and director Timur Bekmambetov whose recent projects include the Russian scifi films Night Watch, Night Watch 2 and Dusk Watch.

Russia also has a rich history of Sci Fi literature.

Paranormal

Parapsychology, UFOs, and cryptozoology (especially Hairy Bipeds) have all been popular topics in Russia. During the Cold War, there was a sense of a parapsychology arms race, as was noted in the book Psychic Discoveries Behind the Iron Curtain (although that contained other Eastern bloc countries as well). The Tunguska Event in Siberia in 1908 has been speculated in Russia to have been an alien spacecraft suffering a catastrophic failure, but other explanations exist as well.
