Roy Ashton (April 16, 1909 – January 10, 1995) Australian-born make-up artist who began at Hammer Films by assisting Phil Leakey on Dracula (aka The Horror of Dracula, 1958) before becoming the studio’s chief make-up man from 1959 to 1966, where he created many of the monsters in such films as The Mummy (1959), The Curse of the Werewolf (1960), The Brides of Dracula (1960), The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll (1960), The Phantom of the Opera (1962), The Evil of Frankenstein (1964), Curse of the Mummy’s Tomb (1964), Dracula Prince of Darkness (1966) and The Plague of the Zombies (1966). In later years he also created make-ups for such anthology films as Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors (1965), Tales from the Crypt (1972), Vault of Horror (1973) and The Monster Club (1980), along with Legend of the Werewolf (1974) and the TV movie Frankenstein The True Story (1973).
