Rosalind Chao (b. September 23, 1957) is an American actress born Zhào Jiālín in Anaheim, California. She is best known for her role on the series Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as Keiko O'Brien. Chao comes from a family of performers. Both parents performed Beijing opera and as a child, Chao took small roles in operas as well. Her first television appearances were in commercials. She graduated from Pomona College in Claremont, California and focused on acting.
Chao's earliest roles include roles in the series Anna and the King, and Kung Fu. She also appeared on the 1977 seres The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries, The Incredible Hulk, and lent her voice to the animated seriesThe Amazing Spider-Man. Other notable roles include guest appearances on M*A*S*H, recurring roles on Diff'rent Strokes, and Falcon Crest and the 1993 film based on the Amy Tan novel,, The Joy Luck Club.
Chao's genre appearances include Memoirs of an Invisible Man, Special Report: Journey to Mars, The Magic School bus, What Dreams May Come, Brimstone, Freaky Friday, Inhabited, Just Like Heaven, and voice roles on Ben 10, and W.I.T.C.H. Other notable television appearances include Six Feet Under, 10-8: Officers on Duty, and The O.C..
Chao is married to voice artist Simon Templeman.
