Ropen are cryptids, or mysterious creatures, believed to live in the jungle setting of Papua New Guinea. Pteradactyloid is what investigators originally assumed it might be; ropens have been sighted flying above the jungle.
Some people believe that the Ropen avoided the cruel fate (euphemism for "extinction") of its Jurassic brethren by seeking refuge in caves that dot the islands of Umboii and Salamaua.
According to the first web pages on these great winged beasts, they possess leathery wings, a flanged tail, teeth-lined beaks, and razor-sharp claws; they are reputedly nocturnal, and eyewitnesses have made consistent mention of glowing red lights in the night sky—a possible indication of bioluminescence emanating from the airborne creature's torso.
The Destination Truth team has captured night-vision camera footage that they cannot explain but that they believe to show ropen in flight.
