Sheppard's team first encountered Ronon in the episode "Runner" while trying to retrieve an enzyme addicted Aiden Ford. In exchange for getting Dr. Carson Beckett to remove the Wraith tracking device, Ronon offers his helping in tracking down Ford. Unfortunately Ford eludes them but Ronon returns to Atlantis with the team.

Sheppard invites him to join the team and is awed by Ronon's skills. He successfully beats all marines in hand to hand combat and shooting. In fact, Ronon has a natural aptitude for violence, a necessary skill he's honed while running from and fighting the wraith for seven long and lonely years. Ronon possesses an energy pistol that emits red blasts of energy on two settings, stun and kill. He also carries a rather significant number of knives on his person.

Ronon's attitude is generally aggressive, intimidating, and threatening but he formed a quick bond with Sheppard. With minimal human contact over the years, his social skills have degraded but despite all this, he understands and is willing to obey the orders of his commanding officer.

Ronon believed he was the only survivor of his planet. He later discovered that approximately 300 Satedans made it to shelters and later moved to the planets Balkan and Manaria. He discovered that his commanding officer Kell, survived. Within moments of finding Kell, he shot and killed him for being a traitor and a coward.

During his time on Atlantis, Ronon became more relaxed and social. His past returned to haunt him in the episode Sateda. The team came across a planet Ronon once visited that was nearly destroyed by the Wraith for helping him. He became known to them as the "Wraith Bringer" and he was captured and turned over to the Wraith in hopes their village would be spared future cullings. Unfortunately, they were completely wiped out.

The Wraith inserted another tracking device in Ronon's thigh and began hunting him once more through the ruins of Sateda. Ronon relived the final days of his world when a woman he loved, Malena, was killed in a Wraith attack after refusing to evacuate with him through the Stargate. He relived the battles and the loss of his team.

Unwilling to abandon Ronon, Sheppard and his team tracked him down and tried to rescue him. Together, they managed to take out the Wraith tracking team but Ronon was determined to eliminate the hive ship leader. He goaded him into coming down to the planet where he tried to fight him on his own. The Wraith proved too much for him and he was almost killed until Dr. Beckett intervened and killed the Wraith with the puddle jumpers drone weapon. Ronon was extremely grateful for their help.

In the Season 3 finale, the Ancients returned to Atlantis and evicted the expedition team from their home. Ronon took up residence with Teyla and the other Athosians on a new planet where they faced a mundane existence as farmers. They were offered the opportunity to join the Genii but fortunately Sheppard's team returned with an offer to help them rescue Atlantis ("The Return, Part 2").

In the series' fourth season, Ronon considered leaving Atlantis after being encouraged in this vein by former friends and fellow Satedans. His friends however, set a trap for him, using him to capture the Atlantis team and after the betrayal, Ronon returned to Atlantis ("Reunion").

Ronon revealed an attraction to Dr. Jennifer Keller who reminded him of the woman he loved and lost during the siege of his home planet. The two bonded and nearly kissed in the episode "Quarantine" when trapped together in the infirmary.
