RoboCop is a 1987 cyberpunk action film from director Paul Verhoeven. Set in a dystopian Detroit, the film chronicles police officer Alex J. Murphy's (Peter Weller) return to the force as a cyborg following his fatal shooting.
Desperate for a solution to the severe crime problem, the city of Detroit turns over law enforcement to the private corporation Omni Consumer Products. One of the company's executives, Bob Morton, takes advantage of Murphy's death and resurrects him as the cyborg known as RoboCop. Robcop struggles with the suppressed memories of his past life wile trying to fight crime and discover who he was and a dark conspiracy within OCP.
The film launched two sequels, a video game, and a television series. A 20th Anniversary Collector's Edition of the film was released on August 21, 2007.
