Roald Dahl

Roald Dahl (b. September 13, 1916November 23, 1990) was a Welsh author best known for his children's books James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Matilda.

Biography

Dahl was born in Llandaff, Wales to Norwegian parents, Harald Dahl and Sofie Magdalene Dahl (née Hesselberg). He was the only son of a second marriage. He lost his father and elder sister when he was three and grew up with mother Sofie and his half sisters.

For many years Dahl was married to The Day the Earth Stood Still co-star Patricia Neal. The mariage ended in divorce.
