Rick Berman

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

Richard Keith Berman (b. December 25, 1945) is an American producer and screenwriter born in New York, New York. He grew up on Long Island and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he majored in speech and graduated in 1967. Berman is best known for his work as a writer and producer on Star Trek series. He also produced the children's series The Big Blue Marble for PBS which won him an Emmy for Outstanding Children's Series.

Berman was working as a vice president of longform and special projects for Paramount Network Television when he was approached by Gene Roddenberry for the development of a new Star Trek series. Berman helped Gene Roddenberry create Star Trek: The Next Generation and he gradually took over series production as Roddenberry's health declined. Given the success of TNG, Paramount requested Berman create another spinoff series, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He worked with Michael Piller on the series.

Berman served as a producer on four Star Trek films: Star Trek: Generations, Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Insurrection, and Star Trek: Nemesis. He was also also responsible for Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise on which he worked with Brannon Braga. While Voyager was not a ratings success it lasted seven seasons. Enterprise polarized Trek viewers and was eventually canceled in its fourth season due to poor ratings.
