Richard Kind (b. November 22, 1956, Trenton, New Jersey) is an American character actor known for his stage work as well as his television appearances on such comedy series as Mad About You, Spin City, and Scrubs.
Kind grew up in Bucks County, Pennsylvania and attended Northwestern University with the intention of later studying law. Following graduation, he followed friendly advice to pursue drama and moved to New York. He met with little success there, but did better in Chicago where he joined the Practical Theatre Company and Second City.
His pursuit of acting led him to Los Angeles where he continued to pursue theatre and also began appearing on television in a variety of guest roles. Early appearances included Empty Nest, Mr. Belvedere and 21 Jump Street.
Kind has also appeared in a few genre roles. In 1994, he appeared in the film Stargate. He would later appear in the series Stargate Atlantis playing Lucius Lavin. Other genre appearances include Space: Above and Beyond, Bewitched, Three Moons Over Milford, and Sands of Oblivion.
