René Echevarria

René Echevarria is an American screenwriter and producer of Cuban descent. He is best known for his work on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and as the creator and executive producer of the USA Network series The 4400. Echevarria is a graduate of Duke University where he studied history. He moved to New York City to pursue a theater career and joined the Circle Repertory Lab Company. He worked as an assistant direction on Victor Muniz' Darts and appeared in Gorky's Lower Depths. He also tried his hand at writing and worked with Kristin McCloy on Prepared which opened at the World's End Theater in London.

In 1989, Echevarria joined the writing crew of Star Trek: The Next Generation. He wrote several episodes and eventually became the show's Executive Story Editor in its final season. He went on to write for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and also became the series' Co-supervising producer. Echevarria has also written and produced episodes of Medium, Dark Angel and Now and Again.
