Rachel Weisz (b. March 7, 1971) is an Academy Award-winning English actress born in London, England to a Hungarian-born inventor, George Weisz, and an Austrian psychoanalyst, Edith.
Weisz attended North London Collegiate School before being expelled and moving on to Benenden School and then St Paul's Girls' School. She graduated from Trinity Hall, Cambridge. Weisz modeled in her early teen years and was drawn to acting in college where she appeared in several student productions and founded the drama group Cambridge Talking Tongues.
Career
Weisz began her career appearing on the London stage. She appeared in Noel Coward's Design for Living at the Gielgud Theatre and garnered attention and critical acclaim. She began appearing on television in the early 90's in guest roles on Inspector Morse, and Sweating Bullets and the TV Movies Dirtysomething, The Scarlet and the Black, Seventeen and White Goods.
She made her big screen and genre debut in a small role in Death Machine. She followed up with Stealing Beauty with Liv Tyler, Chain Reaction with Keanu Reeves, and Going All the Way with Ben Affleck. She returned to British film in Bent with Clive Owen, and a starring role in Swept from the Sea, The Land Girls and I Want You.
In 1999, she starred in the blockbuster The Mummy with Brendan Fraser. She reprised her role as Evelyn Carnahan in the film's sequel, The Mummy Returns in 2001. Other roles included Enemy at the Gates, About a Boy, The Shape of Things Runaway Jury and Envy.
In 2005, Weisz starred in Constantine with Keanu Reeves, and her Oscar award winning role in The Constant Gardener. 2006 brought The Fountain with Hugh Jackman and a voice role in the fantasy film Eragon.
Upcoming roles include Definitely Maybe, My Blueberry Nights, Fred Claus, The Colossus, 'The Brothers Bloom and The Lady from Shanghai.
Personal Life
Weisz is engaged to The Fountain director Darren Arronofsky. They have one son, Henry Chance born May 31, 2006. They live in Brooklyn. Weisz is a fan of singer Elvis Presley.
