The Puppet Master is a super villain nemesis of the fictional comic book superheroes the Fantastic Four. The Puppet Master and the Fantastic Four are owned by Marvel Comics.

When Phillip Masters’ family moved from Transia to the United States, young Phillip brought with him some unusual clay from Wundagore Mountain, which was also the tomb of the elder god Chthon since the 6th Century. Due to this fact, the clay has had strange and mystical properties. Phillip grew up a master of sculpture and puppetry.

Later in life, he caused the death of his best friend Jacob Reiss in an accident that also blinded Reiss’ young daughter Alicia. None had known he had caused the accident while trying to destroy his friend out of jealousy, which allowed him to marry his widow, and become the step-father of the blind Alicia Masters, soon to become a renowned sculptor herself.

Phillip eventually discovered that by molding figures of actual people from his amazing clay, he could control the bodies of others, turning people into, in effect, human puppets. While Alicia Masters started a long-term romantic relationship with Ben Grimm, the Thing of the Fantastic Four, Phillip Masters developed into a deeply dangerous villain, returning again and again to challenge the Fantastic Four, an increasingly dangerous threat to humanity.
