Professor Zoom aka The Reverse Flash is a member of the Flash's Rogues Gallery (referred to as the Rogues for short), a very select group of villains created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino during the Silver Age Flash's first couple of years.

A scientist from the 25th century who stumbled upon the Flash’s costume preserved in a time capsule. Using 25th century science, Thawne was able to extract some of the speed force from the suit, and was able to duplicate the Flash’s speed. The process reversed the colors on the costume, giving him his own unique look. Thawne began a long rivalry with the Flash, apparently even murdering his wife, Iris Allen. Barry would eventually learn that Iris had actually escaped to the future. While he believed Iris to be dead, the Flash actually killed Professor Zoom in battle, beginning a long time feud between the Thawnes and the Allens that would continue through the 30th century.

Professor Zoom would resurface to challenge the Modern Age Flash, through the miracle of time travel.
