Primeval is a British time travel series created by Tim Haines and Adrian Hodges. Douglas Henshall stars as an evolutionary zoologist, Nick Cutter, the leader of a team who must deal with strange prehistoric creatures who begin appearing in England due to strange and inexplicable time anomalies.

The series aired two seasons in the UK on ITV before making its US debut on August 9, 2008, on BBC America. The series has also aired in Australia, South Korea and Germany where it developed a strong following.

Characters

Professor Nick Cutter (Douglas Henshall) – Cynical professor Cutter is a maverick who prefers fossils over living creatures. Cutter is determined to discover what's behind the anomaly brining ancient creatures into the present. He is driven by his past. His wife Helen, went missing for eight years and was presumed dead. Now she has returned and he discovers she's been traveling through anomalies.


Helen Cutter (Juliet Aubrey) – Competitive and independent, Helen's return to the present and her estranged husband is a mystery as is her knowledge about the anomalies which she has willingly tracked and traveled through for years.


Sir James Lester (Ben Miller) – Home office official, Lester, is charged with investigating the anomalies and preventing panic. Arrogant, sarcastic, and ruthless, Lester is a great believer in wisdom of the government. Lester is married with three children but that's a private matter.


Abby Maitland (Hannah Spearritt) – Maitland is a zoologist with and expertise in reptiles. She left university to work at the lizard house, thanks to her love of the creatures. She joined the team after recognizing a lizard she was asked to identify was a previously unknown species.


Stephen Hart (James Murray) – Lab technician and hunter, Hart is also a wildlife conservationist, fencing champion, possible Olympian and a good dancer. Hart had an affair with Helen.


Caroline Steel (Naomi Bentley) – Steel made her first appearance in season two as a club loving woman with reality television aspirations.


Connor Temple (Andrew Lee Potts) – One of Cutter's paleontology students at Metropolitan University, Connor is a bit of a computer geek. Connor enjoys a good conspiracy theory.


Jenny Lewis (Lucy Brown) – Despite a more than passing resemblance to Claudia from the Home Office, Jenny is not Claudia. After a disastrous mission, Cutter returned to find Claudia replaced by Jenny. Jenny is an outspoken PR professional brought in to cover up sightings of creatures.
Claudia Brown Lucy Brown] – somehow eplaced by Jenny, Claudia used to be a part of the Home Office.


Oliver Leek (Karl Theobald) – Leek first appeared in season two as Lester's right hand man. A bit of a nerd, Leek is often overlooked.
