It is a common theme in Sci Fi works. Typically, part of the issue is characters overcoming the limitations placed on them. It may involve someone (or a group of people) who still have some of the pre-apocalypse technology, either helping or in conflict with less fortunate survivors. These survivors are sometimes depicted as violent and devolved.

While "the Apocalypse" is a conflict, the term is used more generally for any huge disaster.
