Poltergeist is a 1982 horror film directed by Tobe Hooper. The film was the first in a series of films bearing the name Poltergeist. This first film was written and produced by Steven Spielberg along with Mark Victor and Michael Grais. The film starred Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams as a couple who moves with their children to a home in a new development which proves to be haunted by terrifying poltergeists with an interest in their young daughter Carol Anne. The film was nominated for three Academy Awards for sound and visual effects, and its score composed by Jerry Goldsmith
