Pleasantville is a 1998 film from writer and director Gary Ross. Tobey Maguire starred as a teen, David, who, along with this sister Jennifer (Reese Witherspoon) gets drawn into his favorite 1950s black and white television program after getting a remote from a mysterious television repairman. The quarrelsome siblings are forced to live in the black and white world where David tries to keep things as they are while Jennifer does whatever she wishes. They are both surprised when the black and white world begins changing, growing and becoming colorful. Though the changes are seen as positive by some, others want no part of this new world. The plot was a metaphor for racism and learning to adjust to a changing world. The film was nominated for three Oscars for its Art Direction, Costume and musical score. Tobey Maguire and Joan Allen both won Saturn Awards for their performance.
