Plot

Interrupted on their wedding day, by Lord Cutler Beckett, Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann are forced to go on a search for Jack Sparrow's compass to win their freedom from persecution for having aided the pirate on their previous adventure. Will manages to find Sparrow and the Black Pearl and they just narrowly escape their deaths at the hands of cannibals. Jack has been in hiding having been visited by Bootstrap Bill who revealed that his debt to Davy Jones is now due. Jack agrees to give Will the compass, which he believes is broken, in exchange for his help retrieving a key to unknown wealth. The compass leads them to a voodoo priestess who informs them the key opens the box containing the heart of Davy Jones which grants its possessor control of the oceans. Davy Jones finds Sparrow and captures Will as one of the hundred souls he demands as payment.

Elizabeth forces Lord Cutler Beckett to validate a Letter of Marque, recruiting Jack Sparrow as a privateer but which she plans to give to Will. She goes on a search for Will but instead comes across the fallen James Norrington and Jack Sparrow. She joins their crew and they set sail for Isla Cruces. Tensions rise between Jack and Elizabeth as the compass, which interprets ones desires, points them toward each other.

On the island, Jack, Elizabeth, and Norrington discover the chest with Davy Jones' heart and Will arrives with the key. A duel ensues between Jack and Will over what to do with the heart and Norrington escapes with the heart and the letter of marque, leaving Jones' men with an empty box.

Jack and Will escape on the Black Pearl and Davy Jones, on board the Flying Dutchman pursues. He summons a giant squid creature known as Kraken and Jack abandons the ship and crew only to later return to fight it off. Elizabeth takes the opportunity to escape with the others realizing the beast wants only Jack. She lies to them saying he volunteered to go down with the ship.

The crew of the now destroyed Black Pearl returns to the voodoo priestess, Tia Dalma, who offers them an opportunity to bring Jack and his ship back. They all agree to the unspecified terms and the formerly dead Captain Barbarosa appears to captain them on their new journey.
