Perdido Street Station is a 2000 novel by China Miéville. The novel is her second and was nominated for the 2002 Nebula Award for Best Novel.

Premise

Set in New Crobuzon, a decaying city that lies beneath the skeletal remains of an ancient beast, humans, Re-mades, and other races live in fear of the brutal ruling government. Scientist Isaac Dan der Grimnebulin, is asked by a member of the garuda race, to help restore his power of flight. A grub that feeds on a hallucinogenic drug escapes his lab and transforms into a flying monster that endangers the city.

Soon a manhunt is on for Isaac.
