Pangar

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

On the series Stargate SG-1, Pangar is a Milky Way planet inhabited by the Pangarans, a race of humans of moderate technological advancement, several decades behind Earth. The planet was once a base of Ra before his defeat by Shaq'ran who then took over. Shaq'ran abandoned the planet leaving the Pangarans to develop without further Goa'uld interference.

Spoiler Warning: Plot details and/or information about the ending follow. If you wish to enjoy the work first, stop reading here and return at another time.

In Earth's 1950s, Pangaran archaeologists unearthed a stasis jar containing the symbiote Egeria, imprisoned on the planet by Ra for opposing him. The Pangarans forced Egeria to spawn thousands of Goa'uld symbiotes which they used to create a revolutionary drug, tretonin, capable of expanding the human life span and giving its users perfect health. The drug had one flaw in its makeup which the Pangarans were unable to overcome. All its users became lifetime dependents on the drug which, like a larval symbiote in a Jaffa, completely replaced their immune systems making them vulnerable to even minor illnesses should they quit using.

The flaw was a deliberate part of the symbiotes' genetic makeup placed there by Egeria who, as a Goa'uld queen, had control over the symbiotes' genetics and memories. Egeria birthed genetically unstable blank symbiotes without memory hoping the Pangarans would stop using the drug. Unfortunately, her plot did not work.

When SG-1 visited the planet and discovered the source of the Pangaran's drug they also realized the identity of the queen as the mother of all Tok'ra. The Pangarans were unaware of her identity and were apologetic for their part in bringing her to near death. The Tok'ra were brought in to see their queen and help the Pangarans fix their tretonin problem.

Tok'ra scientist Kelmaa sacrificed herself to give Egeria a body in which to escape Panagaran imprisonment. The Tok'ra apologized for her imprisonment and Egeria apologized for her part in their problems. Before her death, Egeria gave the Pangarans the knowledge to compensate for the drug's damage but without a queen they were unable to make more tretonin.

Thanks to Pangaran research however, the Tok'ra were able to refine tretonin into a drug that serves as substitute for Jaffa without symbiotes. Further contributing to the end of Goa'uld supremacy.
