Introduction

'"We saw the Earth destroyed, and in a heartbeat everything and everyone we knew was gone. There were five of us, the crew of the space shuttle Odyssey and we were the only survivors. A mysterious being who called himself The Seeker rescued us and sent us back in time. And now we have five years to live over, five years to discover who or what destroyed the Earth, five years to stop it from happening again . . ."

Plot

While on a mission aboard the space shuttle Odyssey, five astronauts witness the sudden and violent destruction of the entire planet. They survive the onslaught and come across an alien entity, an inorganic being known as The Seeker. The Seeker informs them that he has been on a search for contact with other worlds since the destruction of his own planet. Each time, he arrives too late and the planet is already destroyed.

He offers them the opportunity to have their consciousness sent back in time five years in an attempt to discover the source of the tragedy and prevent it. Once back on Earth in the past and their old bodies, they discover that the likely villains are a race known as Synthetics, an artificial intelligence developed by humans and accidentally released over the Internet.

As they try to prevent the horrifying future, they must deal with the issues they lived through before. They alter their past decisions, hoping their knowledge of the future will make for a better outcome.

Characters

Chuck Taggart (Peter Weller) is a veteran astronaut and commander of the Odyssey mission. His son, Marc, unable to live up to his family's expectations dropped out of the program and walked away from his family. His relationship with his younger son Neil isn't perfect either. Back on Earth he faces difficulties with his wife, Paige, who doesn't believe his story and thinks he's having an affair.

Neil Taggart (Christopher Gorham) is an expert in computers and joined the Odyssey mission with his father. Neil was a pot-smoking mess at 17 but has since matured. He believed his father would have preferred his brother Marc on the mission. Their relationship mends significantly when he returns to his 17-year-old body, older and wiser.

Sarah Forbes (Leslie Silva) is a news anchor and a member of the Odyssey 5 crew. She lost her son to a rare stomach cancer, and when she returns to the past she is determined to prevent it from happening again. But her attempts to save her son may cause her to lose him to her husband who worries that he's not safe with her.

Angela Perry (Tamara Craig Thomas) is the shuttle pilot and the daughter of a corrupt U.S. Senator. Although she loves her father, she doesn't trust him or his methods. His interference in her career has cost her the respect of her coworkers.

Kurt Mendel (Sebastian Roché) is a cocky scientist with a penchant for pessimism. He's uncertain of their ability to change the future but nevertheless contributes to the team.
