Novellas are works of fiction. They are longer than Short stories and Novelettes but shorter than Novels. Novellas are considered by some to be the ideal form of written Science Fiction. Technical definitions vary but, for most awards systems which recognize fiction at varying lengths, Novellas are defined as being between 17,500 words long and 40,000 words long. A Novella is often a way for young writers to get started on writing. Writing a Novella is a lot easier than writing a Novel yet more challenging than writing a short story. It is a great way for anyone who is trying to get published at a young age to write a Novella.
