The Nova Group is a fictional terrorist organization on the television series The 4400. The group is made up of 4400 originally intended to be a defensive arm of the 4400 Center. It was created in reaction to the promicin inhibitor scandal that made clear to the 4400 that the government considered them a threat. Shawn Farrell, head of the 4400 Center funded the group until he discovered their involvement in terrorist activities, in particular, the groups attempt to kill former NTAC head, and promicin inhibitor main conspirator, Dennis Ryland. Group member TJ Kim used her abilities to force Ryland's own attorney to attack him at his trial. The attempt failed and a second was made by Gary Navarro while Ryland was in the hospital, which also proved a failure.
Not wanting to be affiliated with the group, Shawn used his connection to the group to aid in the capture of Kim. He had hoped to capture group leader, Daniel Armand. Kim was later killed by Nova Group shape-shifter Boyd Gelder while in NTAC custody.
The Nova Group made a much publicized but unspecified threat to be carried out on October 19. The "attack" turned out, instead, to be a gift designed to show the power of the 4400 and their ability to change the world positively should they continue to be well treated. The Group altered a portion of the Nubian Desert, making it fertile enough to grow wheat. Despite the nature of their display, NTAC agent, Tom Baldwin interpreted the act as a declaration of power and aggression.
Group leader Daniel Armand later turned his powers against Shawn for his betrayal of the group causing him to develop symptoms of schizophrenia. Isabelle Tyler, determined to protect him, sought out and killed several 4400 associated with the group in order to find Armand. Isabelle turned his abilities against him causing him to become schizophrenic.
The group was weakened by Isabelle's attack and several were arrested and placed in NTAC maximum security lock-up. When Jordan Collier returned, he used two other 4400 to help break them out. The group members then helped Collier, gain access to and possession of Haspel Corp's store or promicin and helped him distribute it around the world.
