He was often cast as a mute or a savage, most notably as the Native Chief of Skull Island in King Kong (1933) and its sequel, Son of Kong (1933). He also appeared in The Mummy (1932), The Most Dangerous Game (aka The Hounds of Zaroff, 1932), She (1935), Jungle Book (1942), and Game of Death (1945). Johnson memorably menaced Bob Hope as a scary-looking zombie in the classic horror comedy The Ghost Breakers (1940).
