Night Gallery

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

Night Gallery (December 16, 1970 NBC - May 27, 1973) was a syndicated horror anthology television series created and hosted by Rod Serling.

Although not as long-lasting or as highly regarded as The Twilight Zone, Serling's earlier creations, Night Gallery, is noted for nurturing contemporary writers such as R. Chetwynd-Hayes and Richard Matheson. The series also introduced the work of classic horror writer H.P. Lovecraft to 1970s audiences with two episodes in its second season.

The series also served as a training ground for then-unknown but budding directors such as Steven Spielberg and John Badham. In addition, the series allowed established actors such as John Astin to try their hand at directing in exchange for appearing in episodes as an actor at a lower pay scale.

The format of the show, like Twilight Zone usually started with Serling appearing in the introduction of each episode as the "host." The setting was a darkly and dramatically lit art gallery with a painting representing each story.
