Nichelle Nichols (born Grace Nichols on December 28, 1932) is an American actress born in Robbins, Illinois. She is well known as Lt. Nyota Uhura from Star Trek.

With Trek co-star William Shatner, she shared the first interracial kiss between fictional characters on American television (singers Sammy Davis, Jr. and Nancy Sinatra had kissed on the variety program Movin' With Nancy in December 1967). Nichols' and Shatner's kiss resulted in a deluge of mail - most of which was positive.

Made both her first (The Corbomite Manoeuvre) and last (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country) Trek appearances with DeForest Kelley.
