New Amsterdam is a 2007, Fox television series that was slated to air Tuesdays in the Fox fall lineup. FOX later pushed the airdate to March 2008. The crime drama centers on homicide detective, John Amsterdam who uses the knowledge and skill he's gained over the past 400 years on his job. After debuting to solid ratings, the series suffered a quick decline and was not renewed for a second season.

Premise

In 1642, Dutch soldier John Amsterdam (Nikolaj Coster Waldau), living in what would later become New York, saves a Native American girl by stepping in front of a sword to save her life. The girl places a spell on him, granting him immortality until he finds his one true love. The spell, proves to be as much a curse as a blessing as he has, over the past three centuries, lost friends and children and is forced to go on. When he suffers what appears to be a heart attack while chasing a suspect, he realizes the spell may have been fulfilled and his soul mate is near.
