Nemesis (Greek myth)

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

(Redirected from Nemesis (Greek Myth))
This article refers to the Greek myth. For other uses see: Nemesis (disambiguation)

Nemesis in Greek mythology is the daughter of Nyx and was originally the embodiment of righteous moral feelings or of the conscience.

Later, Nemesis was regarded as the power which balanced the fortunes of people and taught them to reverence the immortal gods.

From this was evolved the modern connotation, that of the avenger of wrong or the bringer of retribution.

Nemesis was first represented as a young virgin woman, and later as clothed in a tunic, sometimes with sword in hand and a wheel at her feet, or in a chariot drawn by griffins.
