Neal Stephenson (October 31, 1959 in Fort Meade, Maryland) is a Hugo Award-winning science fiction author, who first caught the attention of readers with his 1992 novel Snow Crash, an entry in the cyberpunk genre that portrayed an immersive virtual world.
