Neal Stephenson (October 31, 1959 in Fort Meade, Maryland) is a Hugo Award-winning science fiction author, who first caught the attention of readers with his 1992 novel Snow Crash, an entry in the cyberpunk genre that portrayed an immersive virtual world. Stephenson kept the hits coming with his later, equally ambitiously sized works: The Diamond Age (1995) , Cryptonomicon (1999), and The Baroque Cycle, a massive trilogy launched in 2003, comprising Quicksilver, The Confusion, and The System of the World.
