Nazi

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

(Redirected from Nazis)

Nazis were members of the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (National Socialist Worker's Party Party of Germany).

Their primary world impact occured from 1933 to 1945, where the party (led by Adolf Hitler) was in power. This period is also referred to as the Third Reich.

These National Socialists (as they tended to refer to their group) were allied with (primarily) Japan and Italy against England, France, Russia and eventually, The United States (along with many other countries) in World War II.

Both sides engaged in extensive propaganda, which included the use of Sci Fi, especially in America. From Superman to Bugs Bunny to Captain America, popular and iconic characters entered into the conflict in movies and comic books. Other stories use the Nazis as enemies motif, sometimes involving the use of super-science or the occult.

The Nazis continue to appear in Sci Fi into the 2000s, including contemporary set stories (such as in Hellboy), time travel, 1940s set stories and alternate history.

Why the enduring connection between Sci Fi and Nazis? Besides their obvious impact on any 1940s story, the Nazis were both involved in cutting edge science and interested in the paranormal. Germany's rocket technology was futuristic. They were working on an atomic bomb and circular aircraft. They also believed in occult origins of the Aryan race. There are stories of Nazi pursuit of the Spear of Destiny, the Holy Grail, belief in the Hollow Earth, the use of astrology, and so on.

Countering that, there are also reports of their enemies (the Allies, including the United States and the UK) exploring paranormal areas of research as well.
