The National Fantasy Fan Federation (or N3F) is one of the oldest science fiction fan organizations in the United States. Founded in April 1941, back when all speculative fiction - whether science fiction, high fantasy or supernatural horror - were all lumped under the term "fantasy."
A member of the N3F is called a "neffer." N3F membership consists of both fans (or fen) and professional writers.
The group was at its peak in the 1940s and 1950s when it represented the largest fan contingency at the annual Worldcon convention. Neffers developed a reputation as the welcome wagon of sorts to those new to science fiction fandom.
Famous current and former neffers include Forrest J Ackerman, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Howard DeVore, Damon Knight, Jacqueline Lichtenberg, Russ Manning, Sam Moskowitz, and Donald A. Wollheim
