Mykelti Williamson (b. March 4, 1960) is an American actor born in St. Louis Missouri. He became well known in the role of Bubba, opposite Tom Hanks, in Forest Gump. He began performing on stage at age nine. He moved to Los Angeles with his family at age 15. while in high school he participated in sports, excelling in football, basketball, and cheerleading. he eventually quit sports to focus on his true passion, acting.
Shortly after graduation, he began acting. Early roles include appearances on Starsky and Hutch, Hill Street Blues, and China beach. His first genre appearance was in the film, Miracle Mile. In 1990 he appeared in the First Power as a cop trying to stop the evil spirit of a condemned killer. Following his appearances in Free Willy, and Forrest Gump an 1993 and 1994, Williamson guest starred on Time Trax and The Outer Limits. He followed up with Free Willy 2, Waiting to Exhale, Con Air, 12 Angry Men and Primary Colors.
In 1998 he starred in the sequel to the scifi film Species, Species II. He played Dennis Gamble, one of two astronauts who make the first successful manned mission to Mars. Williamson starred in the short lived series The Fugitive in 2000 opposite Timothy Daly. He has also had recurring roles on Boomtown and Third Watch. In 2006, he starred as Virgil Hayes in the series Kidnapped. Upcoming roles include, Spinning into Butter, and Vice.
