Moonlight is a 2007 television series developed by Warner Brothers television. The series debuted on CBS in the fall 2007 lineup following Ghost Whisperer. Displeased with a 13% drop off in viewers following Ghost Whisperer, CBS did not renew the series for a second season.

Overview

Alex O'Loughlin stars as Mick St. John, a private investigator who also happens to be a vampire, transformed sixty years ago by his wife on their wedding night. Mick falls in love with internet reporter Beth (Sophia Myles), whom he rescued from his own wife when she kidnapped her in a twisted attempt to create a family. He has watched over her since but Beth does not immediately recognize her personal hero as the man from her childhood.

Beth is involved with police detective Josh Lindsey (Jordan Belsi) and despite this relationship, she falls in love with Mick. The two share an immediate connection and though Mick initially keeps his nature from her, she eventually discovers what he is which further complicates their relationship as they two are clearly in love but cannot be together as Mick hates what he is.

Jason Dohring plays Mick's best friend Josef Konstantin, a wealthy centuries-old vampire who readily embraces his vampiric nature and serves as an advisor to Mick as well as a leader of sorts among the vampire community.

Coraline (Shannyn Sossamon) is, at the beginning of the series, presumed to have been dead for several decades. Mick believes he witnessed her death in the fire that followed his rescue of young Beth. A young woman identical to Coraline in appearance befriended Beth and Mick became convinced she was a vampire but discovered, after staking her, that she was actually human. She was later proven to be Coraline however and returned to being a vampire. Mick becomes desperate to learn the secret of how she accomplished the transformation for himself.

Vampire Concept

In the series, vampires live and work among humans and do not typically kill to feed. Mick, in particular, survives on donated blood. Rather than a coffin, Mick sleeps in a custom refrigerator. He is able to get around without much difficulty during the day and is able to withstand limited amounts of sunshine. Long exposure to sunlight causes damage that can only be healed with blood.

New vampires who are not taken under the wing of their sire can become feral bloodthirsty creatures with an unquenchable thirst. It appears to be the general consensus that such individuals should be destroyed as soon as possible.
