Moonbase Alpha

Moonbase Alpha is the fictional setting of Space:1999.

It is located in Plato Crater. The mission involved transporting nuclear waste from the Earth to safer keeping on the moon.

The base is approximately 4 km in diameter, and part of it is below the lunar surface.

After an explosion in the nuclear storage areas, the moon is blasted out of its orbit and sent wandering through space. Fortunately, Moonbase Alpha is a self-sustaining city, so it can support the inhabitants with no supplies from Earth.
