Mokele-Mbembe (aka Mokele-mbembe) is an African cryptid (unknown animal), thought by some to be a surviving sauropod dinosaur.
There have been many claimed sightings and failed expeditions, such as one to Lake Tele in the Congo. Some indistinct photographs have been taken.
In the jungles of central African countries of Congo, Cameroon, and Gabon, reports of an animal with a long neck, a long tail, and rounded-shape tracks with three claws. The closest known animal that has these characteristics is a sauropod dinosaur.
When some of the local people of the Likouala region draw in the dirt or sand a representation of Mokele-mbembe, they draw the shape of a sauropod dinosaur. When shown a picture of a sauropod dinosaur, they identified the picture as Mokele-mbembe. Mokele-mbembe means "One that stops the flow of rivers." French priests in the region called it the "monstrous animal." The flesh of this creature is said to be poisonis.
