History
Mohinder receives news of his father's death in New York and immediately goes to his appartment in Chennai to sort through any information or research he left behind. While there, he discovers an intruder in the apartment. He manages to escape and travels to New York, moving into his father's apartment in Brooklyn and taking over his job driving a taxi. Suresh's apartment is a mess and Mohinder takes on the task of organizing it all hoping to find clues to his father's work.
While driving the taxi, he picks up Peter Petrelli whose belief in his ability to fly leads him to ask Mohinder about being "special". Mohinder mentions several points about evolution. When Peter leaves, he picks up a new passenger who asks some pointed questions about his job in India. Nervous and scared, Mohinder abandons the cab and passenger. The man in the cab was the same man from his apartment.
Later, Mohinder discovers a man claiming to be an exterminator in his apartment. He quickly realizes the man is planting a bug. A struggle ensues in the hallway and his neighbor discovers the man's gun. She points it at him and he leaves.
Mohinder's neighbor, Eden McCain, was a fried of his father. While in the apartment they discover a portable hard drive with his father's research. He learns that his father became involved with a man called Sylar who he believed was Patient Zero. Their relationship fell apart according to Eden and Chandra wanted nothing to do with him.
Frustrated with his lack of progress, Mohinder throws his father;s laptop to the floor and a small notebook slips out of a hidden compartment. It's a list of names of people around the world his father believed to possess unusual abilities. Sylar's name and address is in the book and he and Eden go to his apartment.
They knock on Sylar's door but get no answer. Mohinder decides to break in. They find rooms filled with books on shelves. One book lies open to an image of a facial dissection. In one room they find a disturbing image. A vast map, like his father's covers one wall with pins and yarn linking them. The words "Forgive Me", painted in red is written on the wall. Mohinder takes several pictures of the apartment.
The list of names in his father's notebook leads Mohinder to congressional candidate Nathan Petrelli. He catches him as he is about to get into his limo but Nathan refuses to listen to him. He manages to make contact with Peter Petrelli, Nathan's brother. Peter believes he has abilities but he is unable to demonstrate them as they lie in the mimicry of another's abilities. Mohinder is skeptical and Peter takes him to see Isaac Mendez — a heroin-addicted artist who paints the future — to prove it.
Mendez doesn't answer his door however, and Mohinder loses the last remnant of faith he had. He believes Peter is crazy and decides to return to Madras and spread his father's ashes. Eden kisses him and tells him she's certain he'll be back.
Mohinder returns to India and scatters his father's ashes. He visits his father's office and begins to have dreams of the past. In his dream he witnessed his parents arguing and their conversation leads him to the realization that he had a sister, Shanti who died when he was just a baby.
In another dream he sees a young boy, he'd seen in his previous dream and follows him. He appears in New York where he witnesses his father's death inside his cab. The boy hands him a key and when he awakens he discovers a similar key among his father's things. The key opens a desk drawer and he finds a file on the boy in his dream, Sanjog Iyer whom his father believed had a genetic marker enabling him to enter others' dreams.
Mohinder tracks down Sanjog who reveals that Mohinder came to him because he needed help. Sanjog's advice leads Mohinder to make the decision to return to the US and complete his father's work.
Back in the US, Mohinder spoke to the FBI about the deadly Sylar and discovered Eden's true identity as Sarah Ellis. He also learned she was killed. He was contacted by Bennet who wanted his help but Mohinder refused. ("Godsend") Nathan Petrelli later contacted him and Mohinder promised that he would work on finding a cure for Nathan and Peter. ("The Fix")
Mohinder continued his father's work trying to find those with abilities but found he was rebuffed until he ran into a man he believed to be Zane Taylor who had the ability to liquify metal. Zane promised his help in finding others like himself and the two teamed up and traveled to Montana to find Dale Smither. When Dale was murdered, Mohinder realized the man he was traveling with, was, in fact Sylar. In New York, Mohinder drugged him and intended to kill him using curare but Sylar quickly realized his intentions and prevented Mohinder from harming him.("Parasite").
Mohinder was rescued by Peter Petrelli but Peter was killed in the process and Mohinder delivered his body to his family (".07%").
In "Five Years Gone", set five years in the future, Mohinder was seen working for President Nathan Petrelli. Mohinder had hit a wall in finding a cure for the genetic mutation that had transformed ordinary humans into something more. When he realized that Petrelli (actually Sylar) intended to commit genocide to further his ends, he helped Hiro Nakamura escape to change the past and create a new future.
Mohinder later met with Company rpresentative Thompson and agreed to use the company's resources to help find Sylar in exchange for helping find others with abilities. Thompson first took him to meet Molly Walker, a young girl able to find anyone just by thinking about them but whose abilities had been lost to a deadly illness, the same one that killed his sister Shanti. Mohinder cured Molly using antibodies found in his own blood. He also protected her from Bennet with the help of Matt Parkman
Season 2
In the series' second season, Mohinder and Matt continued to be Molly's guardians. Mohinder teamed up with Noah Bennet to bring the company down from the inside. Mohinder was recruited by company head Bob Bishop at a lecture in Cairo. He agreed to work for them. His first assignment was a trip to Haiti to cure the Haitian and bring him in. Mohinder cured him but intentionally failed to bring him in as per his agreement with Noah ("Lizards"). Mohinder was informed he would be under constant surveillance and a lab was set up for him in Isaac Mendez' former studio.
When Mohinder was faced with doing unethical things in the name of the Company, he vocally protested, forcing company operations head, Bob Bishop to compromise and assign him a partner more willing to execute his orders. Mohinder refused to drug Monica Dawson with a strain of Shanti virus that would take away her abilities. He worried that the virus could mutate and cross over into the general population and refused to harm an innocent girl. Bob acceded to his wishes but to ensure his further cooperation, he was given Niki as a partner.
When Molly fell ill after being mentally assaulted by Maury Parkman, Mohinder put aside his objections to the company and brought her in to the company. ("The Kindness of Strangers"). It was ultimately Matt who saved her however.
Despite Mohinder's objections, Bob insisted he use the Shanti virus to subdue Maury Parkman. It was Nicky who got the dose however and Mohinders antibodies were no longer a cure. Mohinder also learned that his secret partner, Noah murdered his former mentor, Ivan Spector in the Ukraine. Mohinder began to question what the right thing to do was. ("Out of Time" .
Bob immediately latched on to the idea of curing Niki with the help of blood from Claire Bennet. But to get to her they must neutralize her father. While Bob intended to kill Bennet, Mohinder objected to the extreme measure and confessed his partnership with Bennet. Bob partnered Mohinder with his daughter, Elle who was not as conflicted about the morality of their job. Mohinder was given a gun which he surprised himself by using when he shot Noah Bennet in the eye to protect Bob. Mohinder later used Claire's blood to bring him back to life ("Cautionary Tales").
Claire's blood combined with his antibodies also proved a cure for Niki but before he could provide her with the cure, he received a call from Sylar who was in his apartment with Molly, waiting for him to help him and Maya Herrera
Season 3
After being forced to cure Sylar, and making little headway with finding a Cure ofr Maya's ability, Mohinder intended to return to India but a new breakthrough led him to the discovery of a means to give himself abilities using the DNA in Maya's adrenaline secretions. Despite Maya's warnings, Mohinder tested his serum on himself and was initially overjoyed to find himself granted superhuman strength, and agility. Unfortunately, he later discovered side effects among them, aggression, the development of scales and he begun secreting a stick web-like substance from his hands.
